CURRICULUM

WE SPARK CURIOSITY AND IGNITE A LOVE FOR LEARNING

Our Program

We offer comprehensive education from preschool to high school graduation.

Our goal is to educate students to the highest international level with a spiraling math and science, digital learning, liberal arts, and bilingual curriculum benchmarked to the best education systems in the world.

From preschool to senior year of high school, our academic program consists of four stages:

1
PRESCHOOL

AGE GROUPS: 3

AGES: 2-5

Discovery & Foundation

Our preschool teachers encourage thoughtful interaction, sparking creativity and curiosity. These years lay the foundation for school success, emphasizing both foundational concepts and scholarly habits.

KEY CURRICULUM PRINCIPLES

1. Two Teachers per Classroom: There are always two teachers in each classroom, a Lead Teacher and a Teaching Fellow. Our Lead Teachers are English language experts. The Teaching Fellows and all administrative staff are fluent in both English and Czech.

2. Comprehensive Growth: We prepare children emotionally, socially, and intellectually for further education. We provide our students with opportunities to explore a diverse range of stimuli that will enable them to discover themselves, their environment, and the world around us.

3. S.T.R.E.A.M. Learning Model: Every day we incorporate specific learning blocks into our program, which alternate and combine discovery, games, songs, creation, free time, and relaxation topics from elementary subjects of Science, Technology, Reading and Writing, Engineering, Fine Arts, and Math. From preschool onwards, our program applies the principles of learning in a spiral, using practical demonstrations, experiments, and discoveries, which gradually prepare our students for further formal education.

2

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

LEVELS: 1-4

AGES: 5-9

Teaching to Learn

The BASIS Prague Curriculum is designed to utilize the curiosity, energy, and ability of children and take it to the next level.

KEY CURRICULUM PRINCIPLES

1. Interdisciplinary Approach: We teach the key subjects of natural sciences and humanities in an interconnected manner through combined courses. Consequently, our students become much more aware of the connections between individual disciplines, which strengthens their abilities of critical thinking and deepens their understanding.

2. Technology to Anchor Knowledge: Our custom software, SPORK, anchors knowledge with real-time assessment. Hands-on experiences complement theoretical learning, fostering critical thinking. We prioritize digital learning, equipping students for success in the digital age.

3. Two Teachers Per Classroom: The Subject Expert Teacher (SET), specializing in disciplines like Math and Science or English Humanities, and leads instruction in their respective subject. The Lead Expert Teacher (LET) focuses on pedagogy and accompanies the students from class to class. This collaboration facilitates a seamless transition from foundational skills to independent thinking.

4. Cambridge English Program: The English Humanities curriculum integrates the Cambridge English program, spanning elementary to high school years. The Cambridge English program is recognized for high academic standards, offers a unique opportunity for our students to showcase their achievements on an international scale, and, upon completion, serves as an asset for their future academic endeavors.

3

MIDDLE SCHOOL

LEVELS: 5-9

AGES: 9-14

From Concrete to Abstract Thinking

This model builds on the skills gained throughout the Elementary School and allows students to acquire independence and increased responsibility for their education.

KEY CURRICULUM PRINCIPLES

1. Subject Expert Teachers: In Levels 5 and 6, our students are taught by Subject Expert Teachers (SETs), many of whom have advanced degrees in their subjects. The focus is on connecting abstract thinking to concrete lessons, helping students progress from understanding to interpretation, from data collection to analysis, and from mathematical calculation to mathematical reasoning.

2. Engineering and Computer Science: During the Lower Middle School, students become introduced to our extended engineering and computer science program. The foundations of engineering, robotics, AI, and computer science are laid in Levels 5-6 and built upon in consequent education (upper middle school and high school).

3. Pre-Advanced Placement Course: Students complete a rigorous schedule of pre-Advanced Placement (AP) courses in all core disciplines, including the three sciences (Biology, Chemistry, and Physics), Economics, and Logic.

4

HIGH SCHOOL

LEVELS: 10-14

AGES: 14-19

Thinking For Problem-solving

The High School curriculum builds upon students' prior experiences, fostering analytical, creative, and independent thinking. Additionally, students hone their self-study skills and engage in project-based learning.

KEY CURRICULUM PRINCIPLES

1. The BASIS Diploma: To earn a BASIS Diploma, students must pass a minimum of six Advanced Placement (AP) Exams, and successfully complete the Cambridge English C1 Advanced Exam. These standardized assessments hold global recognition and play a crucial role in university admissions worldwide. It is expected that students fulfill these requirements by the conclusion of Level 13. Furthermore, students have the option to undertake a state-recognized final exam, known as the Maturitní zkouška, which is mandatory for admission to universities in the Czech Republic.

2. Variety of Subjects: Due to a wide range of subjects and seminars, students can explore different areas, find out what they enjoy and are interested in, and what they want to specialize in. The subjects are complemented by professional research projects and internships.

3. Level 14 Capstone: Level 14 is the preparatory year for university studies, culminating in the Senior Project, which is essential for earning a BASIS Diploma with Honors. This year serves as an opportunity for students to experience university-style studying, helping to ease their transition to higher education.
